Point Mobile is one of the first companies to join Android Enterprise Recommended program

Earlier this year, Google launched the Android Enterprise Recommended program, a Google-led program that helps businesses select, deploy and manage enterprise devices and services that best suit their needs.

Use cases for Android as a platform for rugged devices are growing, with more businesses migrating from legacy Windows OS as Microsoft’s support for Windows Embedded/CE products reaches end of life in 2020. According to IDC*, Android is on pace to become the largest rugged OS by shipments next year, growing at 23% CAGR over the next 5 years, more than 5x the rate of the rugged device market overall. Android is a trademark of Google LLC.

In response to the growing use cases, Google expanded the program to a new rugged category. Devices are validated against an elevated set of standards and best practices specifically relevant for rugged device customers. Point Mobile joins this program with validation of our own rugged device PM45.

“We’re pleased to recognize the Point Mobile PM45 device as part of the Android Enterprise Recommended program for rugged launch. Android Enterprise Recommended rugged devices must meet defined technical specifications and extended lifecycle support requirements that customers expect for their deployments,” said David Still, Managing Director of Android Enterprise Business. “We created the Android Enterprise Recommended program to help businesses choose Android devices and services that meet their needs and make IT’s job easier. We’re excited that Point Mobile is collaborating with us on making this a reality.”

Some of the Android Enterprise Recommended requirements for ruggedized devices include:

Minimum hardware specifications for Android 7.0+ devices

Delivery of Android security updates within 90 days of release from Google, for a minimum of five years

        Certified for ingress protection (IP64)

        Rated for drop testing

Support for bulk deployment of devices including Android zero-touch enrollment

Support for at least one additional major OS release

We are excited to join a program that helps businesses make accurate decisions when selecting devices that meet enterprise needs. The rugged requirements are to improve each year and will continue to raise the standards for validation. Point Mobile devices with the Android Enterprise Recommended seal will be an indication of quality and durability that shows consistent performance in the harsh and demanding business environments.
